Thomas was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. He was a remarkable man who always put the needs of his family and others before his own. Thomas was a proud Veteran who was honorably discharged from the Air Force where he served as a Sergeant in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the St. Joseph Altar Society and the American Legion. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, going to the casino and traveling to Florida, California and Nevada. In his younger days, he raced Motocross and would repair motorcycles and dirt bikes.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Catherine Himel Ward; two children, Martine Mistretta Wofford (Mark) and Thomas Mistretta III (Heather); seven grandchildren, Brandon Regira, Morgan Regira (Lynzie), Zachary Mistretta (Courtney), Cassidy Mistretta (Taylor), Alexa Tullier, Audrey Wofford and Noah Wofford; five great grandchildren, Lawson Regira, Charlotte Mistretta. Joel Mistretta, Andre Regira and baby Mistretta on the way.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Sr. and Marie Maher Mistretta and sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Ronnie Giroir.
The family would like to thank the staff at Baton Rouge Oncology and Hospice of Baton Rouge for their care and support in their time of need.
A visitation will be held at Ascension Catholic Church in Donaldsonville, LA, on Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 9am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Interment to follow in the church mausoleum.
