Raymond Charles Capello was called to heaven on March 6, 2021, at the age of 88. A native of Donaldsonville, he will be remembered as a loving husband and father whose life revolved around his family, to whom he was utterly devoted. Throughout his long life, Raymond was always a man of integrity with a quiet demeanor, strong convictions and great inner strength. He was an inspiration to his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
After graduating from Donaldsonville High School, Raymond served his country as a U.S. Army Corporal stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge, he attended business college and began a career with the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development, where he spent 35 years as a specialist in computations for highway and bridge design. Raymond’s greatest pastime was sports, both as a participant and spectator. In addition to playing high school football and basketball, he played semi-professional baseball.
Raymond is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Rose Bonadona Capello; his parents Ernest Capello, Jr., and Heloise Rodrigue Capello; brothers Donald, Harold, Lloyd, and Gerald Capello and Floyd Wilson, Jr., and sisters Mary Elizabeth Capello and Heloise Medine.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy (Capello) and Jim Patterson; brothers Henry Capello and Ernest Capello III; sisters Ernestine Callahan (E.J.), Carolyn Schlatre, Geraldine Theriot (Burton), and Catherine Oubre (David); sisters-in-law Barbara Capello and Clara Capello; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services for Raymond will be private. Interment will be in the Ascension Catholic Mausoleum.
