After his time serving in the Army, Stanley worked in lumber camps and was well known for his remarkable skills as a lumberjack and feller. In the early part of his life, he also worked as a farm hand on farms throughout NS, Ontario, Alberta, and Regina SK, he hauled grapes in Niagara Falls and picked apples in the States.
After settling down in Digby where he and his Wife Flora began raising a family Stanley worked in a variety of occupations to make ends meet. He worked part time with Digby Town Works, he worked as an apprentice with an electrical plumbing and heating company, he dug clams, painted houses, junked cars for scrap, did mechanic work and picked berries and farm produce among many other odd jobs with his children often in tow. He loved the fall of the year and couldn’t wait to get in the woods to go hunting and cut firewood, his wife and children think of him fondly whenever they hear a chainsaw. He loved to fiddle around outside and could fix almost anything with an engine. He enjoyed reading, watching western movies and tinkering with old Ford trucks.
We already miss him whistling loudly 24/7 everywhere he went. He loved going for drives with his wife Flora to see the fall colors on the crossroad, visiting family and friends and stopping at every yard sale they came to. He enjoyed having company and would rarely be caught without a cup of tea in his hand. No one came to visit without being offered a meal and a hot cup of tea. He loved his family dearly and took great pride in being an amazing Grampy. He had a deep love for his childhood home and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his children in the woodlands he grew up on. In recent years he went through a nightly ritual of asking where all his kids were and wanted to be sure they were well fed and warm with plenty of blankets.
