He is survived by spouse, Maxine Steil; daughter, Candice Nekon; sister, Kelly Schmidt and grandchildren, Eden, Eli and Johnathan. Besides his parents, Mike was predeceased by son, Johnathan Nekon.
Mike was born in Ontario where he spent his childhood years. As an adult he was lucky enough to enjoy an array of jobs, gaining a lot of knowledge and experience. After serving a stint in the Military, Mike cut wood, was a corrections officer in the Yukon, shrimp fisherman in the Gulf of Mexico, he did security and landscaping in Penticton and worked on a golf course in Alberta.
Mike was a big man with a big heart especially when it comes to animals and kids. He had a gruff exterior and was sometimes hard to get to know, but once you got to know him that tough exterior he displayed disappeared. Mikes favorite things to do were working with wood, collecting “too” many things to list. His dream was to live in Nova Scotia and since moving he spent as much time as he could clamming, fishing and combing the beach. Mike can now rest in peace. Donations in memory can be made to your local children’s hospital and animal shelter.
“Until we meet again.”
