Banks, Michael Laird, of Smith’s Cove Digby Co. passed away suddenly on May 30, 2021 at his home in Smith’s Cove. Michael was born on July 14, 1959 in Toronto, Ont. and was the son of Laird and Carol (Cornett) Banks of Smith’s Cove.
Michael attended schools in Toronto, Weymouth, Digby and Middleton. He was employed at Fundy Spray Campground as grounds maintenance for 35 years, Annapolis Maintenance and finally at Smith’s Cove Lawn Maintenance. Michael enjoyed meeting and talking with people ,those he worked with as well as those he met on his walks through Digby. He was a strong Tampa Bay Lightning and Maple Leaf fan. When the Leafs and Lightning would play he would say, “I can’t lose tonight”. He was a faithful member of the Smith’s Cove Baptist Church and was a man of great faith. He was an associate member of the Smith’s Cove Fire Dept., where he volunteered his time. He had a strong interest in history, both his family and in the Digby area. He enjoyed meeting and talking hockey with the late Howard Dill, when he would take Richard to King’s Edgehill. He loved his granddaughters and enjoyed his time with them at the playground, on drives, walks, reading to them or watching hockey.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Valerie, son Richard, Parents , mother in law, Louise Potter and his two adored and beloved granddaughters Claire and Chole. Besides his parents, Laird and Carol Banks, Michael leaves behind his loving wife of 35 years, Valerie (Potter) Banks, son Richard (Melissa Meuse), Hebron; and granddaughters Claire and Chloe. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jayne’s Funeral Home, 15 Birch St. Digby. Special thanks to the Paramedics, the RCMP who attended with compassion, the Smith’s Cove Fire Dept. and Rev.
