Dunn, Maureen Danika – Age 53, Maureen passed away April 15th, 2014 at home with her husband Gary by her bedside after a four year long battle with an aggressive type of breast cancer and undergoing every possible treatment. Maureen wanted to beat it, not only for herself but for everyone battling breast cancer. She opened many doors for others through her determination. Maureen was a daughter of Louise Hicks (Saulnier) and the late Melbourne Hicks. After working for Comeau Seafoods in Saulnierville, Maureen moved to Halifax in 1985 to work for SS Keddy and Sons, returning home in 1988 when her father was ill. She briefly returned to work at Comeau Seafoods in the overseas shipping department before starting her career as an insurance broker with Fairway Insurance from 1991 until May 2013. Maureen loved time on the golf course and spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed her cats and feeding the birds, especially the 30 plus hummingbirds that visited each year. She always looked forward to playing billiards with the girls on Tuesday evenings during the fall and winter. Maureen was actively involved with BCANS (Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia), the Ladies Golf Club in Digby as Vice President; she was an honorary chair of Relay for Life, 2011, and a representative of Southwest Breast Cancer Network Nova Scotia Committee. Maureen is survived by husband, Gary; mother, Louise Hicks; sister, Donna (Ronie) Wilson; nephews Wade, Shawn and Glen Wilson; stepson, Korey (Cara) Dunn; grandchildren, Alexander and Evelyn Dunn. Besides her father, she was predeceased by brother, Ronald and infant sister Linda. Cremation has taken place with a visitation, 7-9 pm, Wednesday April 23rd, from Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby (245-2525). A celebration of Maureen’s life will be held at 1pm, Thursday April 24th from Digby Baptist Church. Rev. Donald Roberston and Father Benny D’Entremont presiding. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Digby. No flowers by request. Donations in memory of Maureen may be made to Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia, online at www.bcans.ca.
