Donna Joyce Levy

Levy, Donna Joyce (Hubley) – Digby, passed away Monday afternoon, November 29th, in her husband’s arms, in her own home. She was a butter box baby, born Lucy Ann Turner on August 8th, 1935. Donna was adopted by Otto and Laura Hubley, and was schooled in Chester and Bridgewater. After graduation, Donna enrolled in, and graduated from the then Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. She treasured her status as an RN, and never went to work without her cap, which is still among her possessions. On the 24th of May, 1952 she met the man who was to become her husband, and to the day, four years later, became engaged. On the 24th of May 1957, she married Richard Allen Levy of Digby. They had three children, Karen Jane, Peter Andrew and Margo Jocelyn, of these children only one survives, Margo. Karen Jane Sinclair died in 2007, and Peter died in infancy. In 1993, Donna was united with her biological mother, and was very happy to know she had a half-sister in Quispamsis, NB. Donna at one time was a curler, and enjoyed bridge with friends. Donna was very much into crafts as was known locally for her neckties and leather purses, made from retired skirts. Her health had been a major concern since early fall 2009, and caused changes in lifestyle, all of which ended Monday the 29th. Donna is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Richard “Dick” Levy; daughter Margo (Robert) Nesbitt, Lansdowne; sisters Janice Street, Calgary; and Florence (Barry) McKnight, Halifax; sister-in-law Muriel A. Levy, Digby; half-sister Joanne (Mike) Mossman and family, Quispamsis; grandchildren Colton (Stephanie Cruikshank) Nesbitt, South Farmington; Brooke Nesbitt, Kingston; and Madison Nesbitt, Lansdowne; one great-grandchild Emma Nesbitt, South Farmington; nephews Michael (Judy) Street, Peter (Jan) Street, both of Calgary, AB; Paul (Cindy) Street, Whistler, BC; Rick (Kristen) Hubley, Mt. Uniacke; niece Laura (Shawn) Lewis, Timberlea; several great nieces and nephews. Besides her adoptive parents, Donna was predeceased by her biological mother Lola Geldart, and brother Richard “Dick” Hubley. Visitation will be held 7-9pm Thursday December 2nd in Jayne’s Funeral Home, 7 Birch St. Digby; (245-2525). A celebration of life service will be held at the United Baptist Church of Digby, Friday December 3rd at 11 a.m. Rev. Donald Robertson presiding; with cremation to follow. Family will meet with friends in the church hall following the service. Interment at a later date. Donations in Donna’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
