Jeannette Turner, 98, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2020. She was born in Dexter, Michigan to Carl and Ruby Bates. Beloved mother of Sue (Robert) Nix, Debbie (Bruce) Mitchell and Mary (Ronald) Bowersock, grandchildren Christian (Robin) Nix, Heather (Scot) Korth, Michael (fiancée Chelsea) Mitchell, and Joey Mitchell. Her great grandchildren are Ashley, Adam and Andrew Nix. Also surviving are sisters Helen Stewart and Carolyn Toney. She was predeceased by sisters Dorothy Bates and Louise Mann, and brothers Harry Bates and William Bates.
Jeannette graduated from Dexter High School in 1939 and Michigan State University in1943. She was the head therapeutic dietitian at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Detroit for 25 years, and after retiring, moved back to Dexter with her sister, Dorothy. They built a home on property that was part of the family farm, now named Bates Farm.
Family will receive visitors on Thursday, January 16, from 3-6p.m. at Dexter United Methodist Church, 7643 Huron River Dr., Dexter.
Her memorial service will also be held at her church on January 17. Family will receive friends at 2:00 pm and the service will begin at 3p.m. Donations can be made in Jeannette’s memory to Dexter United Methodist Church, or Our Front Porch, her granddaughter’s nonprofit disaster relief organization at 6740 E.
