David John Keller, age 74, of Dexter, Michigan, was born September 30, 1949 and passed away June 1, 2024. David was born in Fox Point (Milwaukee County), Wisconsin. He graduated from Nicolet High School and attended Hanover (IN) and York (PA) Colleges. He worked in industrial fire protection for most of his working life. His strong work ethic earned the respect of his colleagues and those he met during his career. For nearly two decades, before his retirement, he worked in fire protection on the North Slope of Alaska.
David had a great love for all things outdoors— camping, bird watching, hiking, canoeing, gardening, and planting fruit trees. He was an avid hunter, conservationist and a strong supporter of wetlands and habitat preservation. He was a lifetime member of Ducks Unlimited. His love of nature inspired his photography.
Family and friends were the keystone of his life. He loved telling or hearing a good story, helping others with projects, having a party, listening to music, and going on trips— whether it was a x-country ski weekend with his buddies, a family reunion or a music concert.
Despite the health challenges of his last few years he maintained a positive attitude, ready smile, sense of humor, and energy for the next item on his To Do list. He is survived by his wife Karen, to whom he was married for 41 years, his daughters Anna Liisa Keller (of Rochester, NY) and Kendra (Mike) Means (of Minneapolis, MN) and two grandsons, Luke and Logan Means. Nothing gave him greater pleasure than watching them fish off the dock. He is also survived by his brother R. Wes (Jean) Keller and sister Cherry (Hank Krueger) Keller and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Nellie Keller, his sister Bev Throndson and nephew Doug Throndson.
David, your family is asking your favorite question when looking at a problem to solve, “What’s wrong with this picture?” You are no longer physically in the picture but your love and that smile are indelibly written on our hearts.
Memorial Service will be held, Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 10:00am at Webster United Church of Christ, 5484 Webster Church Road, Dexter.
Those who would like to may make a donation in his memory to Webster United Church of Christ, his spiritual home, or to Ducks Unlimited.
