Ruth Ellamae (Johnson) Eldridge, born March 11, 1937 in Alger, Ohio to Grant Ulysses Johnson and Molly Harper-Johnson, passed away on July 16, 2021. She graduated from Stockbridge High School in 1955 and Jackson Community College in 1958. She married Tom Eldridge in 1957.
Ruth worked as a nurse at Sparrow Hospital in the ICU for many years. She was Nurse of the Year in 1994, and retired in 1999 after 35 years at the hospital.
Ruth deeply loved God and her family. Especially dear to her heart were her grandchildren, Corey and Jessica. She very much enjoyed babysitting them and volunteering at their schools when they were younger. Ruth treasured her grandchildren deeply: they were everything to her. They were beautiful, kind, smart, incredible souls that she was proud of and prayed for continually and loved unconditionally. She will forever watch over them from Heaven above.
She was very involved in her church and loved the Lord her Savior with all her heart. Ruth loved her years being a nurse and often shared her faith with her patients. She had planned to work in Hospice so she could help people at the end of their life find the peace of Christ and know that He has a place for them. She was never able to do that, but Hospice ended up being a huge help and blessing to her in the last 4 1/2 months of her life.
She has reached her goal, her final destination. Her journey is over. She is victorious over death and pain. She has everlasting life forever with her Lord and Savior in Heaven. How awesome is that! She has touched many people's lives throughout her lifetime. Even though she will be greatly missed by many, we know she is with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and we will see her again one day.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom; her siblings, Barb Jarrell, Marge Greer, Bill Johnson, and June Honaker.
She is survived by her sisters, Mary Unum, Kita Moore, Brenda (Robert) Mason, Peggy (Jerry) Hegge, and Kay Fults; her daughter, Lisa Olney; and her grandchildren, Corey and Jessica Olney.
Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, July 21 at 1pm at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 4444 W Grand River Ave. in Lansing.
Memorial contributions may be made to Careline Health Group and Hospice, 103 S. Jackson St., Jackson, MI 49201.
