Roy Harley Petersen, 79, of DeWitt, Michigan, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Sparrow Hospital. He was born June 21, 1937 in Lansing, Michigan, to Harley and Jenny Petersen of Greenville. Roy was married to Maria Petersen (Svab) for 47 years and she survives. Also surviving are his son, David (Marcie); three granddaughters, Molly, Megan, and Melanie; and brother, Dar (Linda) Petersen.
A 1955 graduate of Lansing Eastern High School, Roy worked for General Motors for 35 years until his retirement. He had a passion for old cars and was one of the founding members of the Mid-Michigan Street Rod Association (MMSRA). He was also an active member of the National Hot Rod Association. He expertly served as the MMSRA’s Newsletter Editor and thoroughly enjoyed publishing the latest news for the members. He looked forward to every event and getting together with his buddies to “talk hot rods.” Family and friends were Roy’s love and joy. He spent as much time as he could with them and leaves behind many friends.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Friday, February 10, 2017 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington Street, DeWitt, Michigan.
A funeral mass will take place at 11:00 am Saturday, February 11, 2017 with visitation one hour prior at the Catholic Community of St. Jude, 801 N. Bridge Street, DeWitt Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Roy may be made to the Catholic Community of St. Jude Building Fund, 409 Wilson Street, DeWitt, Michigan. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.grdewitt.com
