Frank Sudac, age 85, passed away on 16 April 2012. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Adeleen (Addie) Sudac, and six children; Mary (John) Dietrick, Cathy Sudac, John (Ruth) Sudac, Joe Sudac, Mark (Janet) Sudac, and Ann (Eric) Borgen. He leaves behind six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren whom he loved and adored along with many other extended family members.
Frank was born to the late Frank and Rose Sudac in Escanaba, Michigan in 1926. He spent his childhood in Escanaba attending Saint Joseph’s High School where he was an alter-boy and participated in many sports. In 1944 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After volunteering for paratrooper duty he served as a member of the famed 82nd Airborne Division. Upon his discharge in 1947, he attended Michigan State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education.
In 1952 Frank went to work as a teacher and coach for Bath High School where he met and married the love of his life, Adeleen. Frank took a teaching position with Pattengill Junior High School in 1954, and coached at Lansing Eastern. He later worked as a coach, teacher, and counselor at Eastern High School, Otto Junior High School and finished his professional career at Gardner Junior High School, retiring in 1983.
For over 40 years Frank served the Lansing community in a variety of capacities including Lansing Township Supervisor, Ingham County Commissioner, and Chairman of many important boards and committees. In 2010 he was inducted into the Eastern High School Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions to the school and for coaching Eastern’s first State Championship in Cross Country in 1955. He was an avid golfer, with three holes in one to his credit.
Frank made a lasting impact on the lives of many people. A dedicated father, he was interested in all areas of his children’s lives. He treated everyone equally, making his daughters feel as important and valued as his sons. Being constantly surrounded by books and hobbies, he developed a love for reading and outdoor activities which he passed on to his family.
Frank was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, teacher, coach, craftsman, and puzzle master who proudly and faithfully dedicated his life to his family and community. He had boundless energy, endless curiosity, a sense of adventure, and an insatiable desire to learn new things. He gave the best bear hugs and whisker rubs. Frank Lloyd Sudac will be greatly missed by his family and friends and the community he served so well!
A Memorial Visitation for Mr. Sudac will be on Saturday, April 21, 2012 from 3-5pm and 7-9pm, at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, DeWitt Chapel, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt, MI with the Rosary at 8:00pm. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Capital Area Region, 5303 S. Cedar St., Building 1, Lansing, MI 48911 and/or to the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, PO Box 30480, Lansing, MI 48909 in Mr. Sudac’s memory.
