It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Andrew Patrick Murphy, known to all who loved him as "Andy." Born at St. Lawrence Hospital in Lansing, Michigan, on February 24, 1975, Andy was 49 years old at the time of his death.
Andy was a man of boundless talent and knowledge, known for his exceptional skills as a contractor. From a young age, he displayed a natural aptitude for working with his hands, a talent he discovered in shop class at Otto Middle School. At Eastern High School Andy earned the title of homecoming king and played on the football team. His natural athleticism led to a lifelong love of golf. Golf was Andy's cherished pastime, and Thursday nights spent on the course with his best friend, Keith, were a highlight of his week.
Andy was deeply devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving parents, Ed and Charlene Murphy, his brothers Chris Murphy and Mike Murphy (Erin), and his children Andrew Murphy and Alyssa (Dean) Reik. He was also a proud grandfather to Rory Reik, and a cherished uncle to nephews Mason and Brooks Murphy, and Joshua Villegas-Murphy, and niece Elexia Pope (Ryan).
In addition to his family, Andy leaves behind his two lifelong best friends, John Guyton and Keith Gmazel, who were more like brothers to him. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Evelyn and Nicholas Poliski, and his paternal grandparents, Adele and James Murphy.
Andy’s greatest joy in life was his son, Andrew James Murphy. Together, they shared countless hours playing Yahtzee and Wii bowling, watching their favorite movies, and enjoying drives with the windows down and the music blasting. Andrew was his father's pride and joy, and Andy will live on in his son’s beautiful light. To Andrew, his dad was not just a father, but a hero.
A believer in God, Andy will now spend eternity watching over his loved ones from heaven, his spirit and love forever guiding those he left behind.
The family will be having a private family service, but invite those who loved Andy to lunch at Reno’s North on Sunday, November 24th, at 12:30 pm.
