Mrs. Cooper was born in Varnado, LA on September 14, 1921 to James Felix and Lola Letitia Seal Ratcliff.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, October 14, 2013 exactly one month after her 92nd birthday. Preceding Mrs. Cooper in death were her parents, her husband, Clarence Laborn Alton Cooper, and two brothers, James Benjamin Ratcliff and Willis Charles Ratcliff.
Our mother was the eternal "earth mother" who loved her family most of all, but she also loved her garden, her chickens, the home where she grew up, and the country way of life including biscuits and coffee or "red eye" gravy. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her "earth family" which includes her nine children, thirteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Mrs. Cooper's children include Silva Marie Marcantel and husband, Wesley of DeQuincy, LA, Nevada Rose Cooper of San Francisco, CA, Clarence L. Cooper and wife, Linda of Houston, TX Bobby Alton Cooper of Starks, LA, Charles J. Cooper and wife Sharon of San Antonio, TX, Juanita Darlene Beglau of Singer, LA, Jessie Lola Statum and husband George of Sulphur, LA, Dorthey Eula Mae Garnett and husband, Kenneth of Mauriceville, TX, and Thomas W. A. Cooper of Sulphur, LA. IN addition Mrs. Cooper leaves behind cherished first cousin, Houston H. Seal of Varnado, LA.
The family would like to thank the staff of High Hope Care Center of Sulphur, LA who provided her with loving care for many years as well as staff members of West Cal-Cam Hospital, Cornerstone Hospital, and especially of Holly Hill Care Center and Acadian Ambulance who fought valiantly for her and provided comfort to family members during her passing.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday, October 14 at 9:00am at Hixson Snider Funeral Home of DeQuincy with a Graveside service to follow at Brushy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Bancroft, LA at 11:00am. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.
