Marian Vinson

DEQUINCY - Mrs. Marian Cline Vinson, 91, died Thursday, April 5, 2012, at DeQuincy Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Vinson was a lifelong resident of DeQuincy and a graduate of DeQuincy High School and USL (formerly SLI) in Lafayette. While at SLI, she was a member of the Red Jackets Marching Unit. After graduation she taught at Southeastern in Hammond, Louisiana and briefly at Conroe, Texas. She also coached girls’ basketball at both schools. She taught for 20 years at DeQuincy schools at both the elementary and middle school levels. She was a member of the Calcasieu Retired Teachers and the Louisiana Retired Teachers Associations. She was a long time member and served as president of the DeQuincy Study Club and was also a member of the Adah Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of the DeQuincy United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

Mrs. Vinson was the owner of Lyons Lumber and Coal Company, one of the oldest continuously family owned businesses in DeQuincy.

She is survived by her daughter, Carla Robertson; three grandsons, Joe (Ruth) Robertson, Greg (Lori) Robertson, Guy (Allison) Robertson, and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Guy Vinson; parents, Carl E. and Gladys Banker Cline; and a son-in-law, Jimmy W. Robertson, all of DeQuincy.

Her funeral will be Saturday, April 7 at 10 AM at the DeQuincy United Methodist Church. Rev. Gloria Youngblood will officiate assisted by Rev. Richard Teeter. Visitation will be Friday, April 6 from 5 – 9 PM at Hixson/Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy, and will continue Saturday morning at the church from 9 AM until the time of service. Interment will follow at Perkins Cemetery in DeQuincy. Pallbearers are Joe Robertson, Greg Robertson, Guy Robertson, Gary W. Cooper, Jerry Franks, and Steven Rainwater.

The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Jalal Joudeh, the staff at DeQuincy Memorial Hospital, DeQuincy Home Health and Odyssey Hospice. Also a special thanks to her caregivers, Sheila Mahaffey, Hazel Prescott, Tonya Royer, Lucille Poole, Jimmie Hyatt and Linda Prudhomme.
