DeQuincy - Donald VanWinkle, 90, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2012 in a local nursing home.
Mr. VanWinkle was a WWII Veteran, Army W2 Officer with 35 Years of Military Service with the Army National Guard. He was an avid fisherman, professional square dancer and enjoyed his retirement with his wife traveling through-out 48 states.
Mr. VanWinkle was preceded in death by his brothers, Allen VanWinkle, Albert VanWinkle, Roy VanWinkle and Edward VanWinkle; sisters, Edna Alston, Katherine Pearce and Otis Pinder. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Eunice Mae Barrow VanWinkle; one son, Jimmy Don VanWinkle; one daughter, Patricia Sonnier; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Monday July 16, 2012 from 10:30a.m .- 9:00p.m. at Hixson Snider Funeral Home Chapel and resume on Tuesday July, 17, 2012 at 10:00a.m. until service time. His funeral will be on Tuesday July 17, 2012 at 2:00p.m. at the funeral home Chapel. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Snider Funeral Home.
