Mary Judith McFarland, 89, of Denver, Colorado, entered eternity on November 5, 2016. She was born September 23, 1927, in Leavenworth, Kansas, to the late James Walter Wallace and Helene Kirkham Wallace. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Frank Vance McFarland. Judy grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but spent most of her life in the Denver front range region. There, she proudly raised three sons while pursuing a career in media and communications. Judy completed undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Denver and the University of Northern Colorado, and she worked as a reporter and photographer for both the Denver Post and Littleton Independent. Judy thoroughly enjoyed her involvement in civic and community affairs, and she spent her leisure hours in artistic pursuits: drawing, painting, photography, and gardening. Her brilliant blue eyes were a window into a soul of intelligence and conviction, and she loved to engage in conversations of human interest and local history. Judy’s optimism and can-do spirit were hallmarks of a life well-lived, and she will be remembered for her appreciation of nature and devotion to those she loved.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 10:00 a.m., with a service to follow at 11:00 at Hampden Gardens Chapel.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, and son, Kevin McFarland. She is survived by sons Greg McFarland (Canon City) and Brian (Martha) McFarland (Carmel, IN), grandsons Roy (Laura) McFarland and Peter McFarland, and great granddaughter Georgia McFarland.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Brookdale at Roslyn for their kindness and care during Judy’s residency. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
