Gerald Allen, a man of unwavering integrity, boundless compassion, and adventurous spirit, passed away on June 2, 2024, at Shalom Park. Born in Elgin, Illinois, on October 18, 1937, to Lawrence and Mildred Allen, he embarked on a remarkable journey filled with love, dedication, and service.
Gerald, known fondly as Jerry, embarked on his lifelong adventure when he married Catherine Lasch on August 30, 1958. Together, they shared a bond that transcended time, weathering the storms and cherishing the moments of joy with unwavering devotion.
Educated at Purdue University, Jerry earned a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering, setting the foundation for a career marked by innovation and excellence. His professional journey led him to diverse corners of the globe, working as an electrical engineer for Schlumberger on oil rigs. During the 1960s, Jerry, Kay, and their two children embraced the thrill of international living, residing in Holland, Libya, and Nigeria.
In 1969, the family planted roots in Aurora, CO, where Jerry fulfilled his entrepreneurial dreams by establishing Alpharent, an equipment rental business. His dedication to the industry was evident through his active involvement in the American Rental Association, where he served as a regional President, leaving an indelible mark on the community he cherished.
A pillar of the Aurora Rotary Club for over 50 years, Jerry's leadership was instrumental in shaping the organization's ethos of service and compassion. As President in the early 1970s, he spearheaded initiatives that touched countless lives, including the foreign exchange student program, which became a cornerstone of the club's outreach efforts. Jerry's generosity knew no bounds, as evidenced by his role in hosting 13 exchange students alongside his beloved Kay.
Beyond his professional and civic endeavors, Jerry was a beacon of inspiration, sharing his wisdom as a charismatic Dale Carnegie Instructor. His courses in "How to Win Friends and Influence People" and Management Seminars left an indelible impact on those fortunate enough to attend, shaping countless careers and nurturing future leaders.
In the tranquil embrace of their mountain home in Pine Junction, CO, Jerry and Kay found solace and joy, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the companionship of their cherished horses, April and Beau.
Jerry's legacy of love and service lives on through his beloved wife Catherine (Kay) Allen, his devoted children Todd Allen (spouse Kari), Kim Rice (spouse John), and Andie Hitchcock (spouse David), as well as his six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
