Ed Foley (full name Edward Steven), born in Albany, NY June 27, 1939, left this world peacefully on November, 23, 2019 at 80 years of age in Denver, Colorado. He lived a full life and was loved by his family.
Ed grew up in New York and enlisted in the Marines in 1957. He served actively through 1960 and in the reserves until 1963. He was proud to have been a Marine, serving part of his time in the military in Okinawa, Japan.
Upon returning from military service, Ed was a lifeguard at Jones Beach. He loved the outdoors and being active, which led him to Aspen, Colorado in 1963 to teach skiing. He moved to the Denver/Boulder area in 1966 to pursue a degree in Japanese history from the University of Colorado, which he obtained in 1970.
Ed spent the next 20 years teaching skiing and tennis at Gart Brothers Sports Castle in Denver. After the company sold in the early 1990's, he became a medical courier and later, a hospital security officer.
He moved to Henderson, NV in the mid 2000's for the birth of his granddaughter, who became the love of his life. He continued security work until he retired in 2016. Ed moved back to Colorado in early 2019 to live with his oldest daughter and her husband.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Stephen Foley, and his mother, Rita Evalena O'Hara. He was survived by his brothers, Peter Foley of Clifton Park, NY, and Dick Foley of Stratham, NH, and their families; former wife and friend, Stephanie VanBogart, of Henderson, NV; his daughters, Catherine Cox of Aurora, CO, and Mary Marriott of Henderson, NV; their husbands, Steve Cox and Jeremy Crispin; his step-grandson, Jack Crispin; and his beloved granddaughter, Stephanie Marriott.
A funeral mass and celebration of life will be held in New York at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital are welcome.
