She attended California public schools and graduated from California High School. Soon after, she met and married James Ivan Latham on September 1, 1957 in California, Missouri. They moved from Missouri to Richardson, Texas, in 1967, where they became active members of Community Christian Church for over 40 years. In 2009, they moved to Denison, Texas, quickly becoming active members of First Christian Church of Denison.
Ruby was involved in numerous organizations, including Daughters of the American Revolution, Denison Performing Arts, Dorcas, and the Denison Friends and Newcomer’s Group. Originally called “GiGi” by her grandchildren, it quickly became her nickname for all who knew her. She had a passion for collecting antiques, glassware, quilts and pictures of her beloved family. Ruby was known for opening her home to graciously host birthdays, holidays, club gatherings and any celebration. She also was a talented seamstress and could sew anything from skating costumes to wedding dresses.
Her parents, Herbert Heinrich and Ruby Porter Kusgen preceded Ruby in death. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, James Latham; her three children and their spouses, Paul Latham, and wife, Patty, of Richardson, Dr. Angela Latham Altnether, and husband, Ken, of Denison, and Katrina Clines, and husband, Greg, of Ann Arbor, Michigan; and her four grandchildren, Katy Latham, of Dallas, Amelia Latham, of Richardson, and Audrey and Luke Altnether, of
Denison. Also surviving are her sisters, Hulda Pollman and Lola McCarty and brothers, Ted Kusgen and Dan Kusgen; and many nieces and nephews.
Ruby’s memorial service will be held at First Christian Church in Denison at 4:00 pm Sunday, April 10th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruby's name to Community Christian Church in Richardson, or First Christian Church of Denison.
