Robert Monte Moorehead “Bob” 83 , of Pottsboro, Texas went to be with our Heavenly Father on Tuesday , July 25, 2017 after complications with dementia. He was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on September 28, 1933 to Elva and Monte Moorehead.
Bob was the youngest of three children with sisters Kay Bottenfield and Pat Burns. After the family moved to Des Moines, and graduating from Roosevelt High School, he attended Iowa State University and graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree in 1956. He continued his post graduate work at Iowa State University.
Bob’s first job was at Gilfellen Brothers in Los Angeles, California, where he worked on designing radar equipment. In 1958 the family moved back to Cedar Rapids to work for Collins Radio. He was then transferred to the Collins Richardson facility working in a systems group in charge of U.S. Navy programs.
His greatest talent was always inventing and in 1970 he left Collins Radio to found his first company Spectradyne, a company that invented a system to provide movies to hotel rooms. He holds patents for this system . Later Bob started another company , COMAR. His inventions and patents include Mudlogging Systems, Beach Cleaner, an Image Analysis System, Newspaper Conveyor Control System, Bat Total Counting System and many more. In 1989, he sold the company to TKS, a Japanese Company, and moved to the Oregon coast with his loving wife Patricia. There they stayed and enjoyed wonderful years before moving back to Texas.
Bob was a natural cook and loved feeding family and friends. He also was an incredible gardener and grew the best tomatoes in Richardson.
Even during his final years in care facilities he never stopped inventing projects in his mind.
Survivors include his wife of 27 yrs, Pat Moorehead; Sister Pat Burns and husband John of Ames , Iowa his daughters Susan Moorehead Vandiver and husband Ellis of Hamilton , Texas; and Joni Moorehead Dodson and husband David of Spring, Texas;; grandchildren Stephen Eppler, Kristen Hunter and husband Matt, Robert Dodson , Kenneth Dodson; two step-children, Wendy Zavaleta and husband Tony and children Chad Thompson, Brent Thompson, Alexander Zavaleta; and Jon Wesley Brown and wife Rosa, and children Daniel Brown and Nicolas Brown; three great-grandchildren Benjamin Eppler, Madison Hunter and Austin Hunter and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Steve and Kimberly Streun who own Legacy Assisted Living, Guardian Hospice, and to Dr. Joe Church for making his last years joyous.
