William (Bill) Floyd Talbott went to Glory on Jan, 1, 2021, in Sherman, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Thursday January 7th, at 10 a.m., in the Parkside Baptist Church, 301 Lillis Lane, Denison. Burial will be at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be open at Bratcher Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 6th, from 1 pm until 7 pm. Family will be present from 6 pm to 7 pm. Both visitation and funeral proceedings will be in accordance with state COVID protocol.
Bill was born Nov 27, 1926, in Erie, Neosho County, Kansas, to loving parents Floyd and Viola Talbott. He was the youngest child, having two older sisters, Marion and Margaret and he grew up on the family farm. He married Ellen Connely of Parsons, Kansas, on October 23, 1949. They had four sons and were married for 57 years until her passing on April 21, 2007. He later married Wanda Glenn in 2008.
Bill is survived by his wife and his four sons and daughter-in-laws, David and Julia of McKinney, Daniel and Catherine of Plano, Jonathan and Beverly of Pottsboro and Timothy and Beverly of Denison.
He is also survived by 10 grandchildren who are Christopher and Nicole Talbott, Benjamin and Alexis Talbott, Justin and Katie Talbott, Caitlin Talbott, Lauren Talbott, Jennifer and Aaron Gage, Derek and Laura Talbott, Mark and Brittany Talbott, William Talbott, Melissa Talbott and by 14 great-grandchildren.
Bill started his career with the M-K-T (KATY) railroad in 1952, working in the Parsons Diesel Shop. He worked for the M-K-T in Oklahoma City for four years before moving to Denison in 1967. He retired as Sr. Master Mechanic for the KATY system in 1988.
He was active in the military and served in the Kansas and Oklahoma Army National Guard from 1948-1988. He was commissioned as an Officer in 1954. He served in several top ranking leadership positions which included Battalion Commander 1st Battalion 171 Artillery, and Battalion Commander 1st Battalion 180th Infantry. He was awarded the Oklahoma Meritorious Service Medal in 1977. He retired as a Colonel in 1988.
Bill was a true loving Patriarch to his family and faithful servant of God. He served as a Deacon for Parkside Baptist Church where he also ministered as a volunteer on the Builders Team, the Gideon’s, and as a Sunday School class teacher. His biggest passion was participating in Prison and Jail Ministries, where he successfully led many people to the Lord.
