Bobbie Jean Rodgers, age 87, passed away on Sunday July 8, 2018. Bobbie was born in Denison, on Wednesday January 7, 1931, and graduated from Denison High School in 1948.
She worked at the telephone company as an operator, and met her future husband there. She married Billy Joe Rodgers on May 31st, 1950. He was the love of her life. They had two sons, Ricky, and Kim. Bill's job took him to Dallas, where Bobbie and Bill both continued working for Southwestern Bell. After retiring in 1983, they moved back to Denison.
Bobbie was a wonderful cook, and her grandchildren loved her pies and cakes. Bobbie was a shy person, very kind, and devoted to her home, her church, and her 7 grandchildren. She and Bill attended Parkside Baptist Church, and she talked often about how much she enjoyed her Ladies Sunday School class.
She had 7 grandchildren, Austin, Grant, Hope, Sally, Jeb, Emily and Dean. Bobbie had one sister, Virginia Copley, who still lived in Denison until her passing on August 25, 2018.
Bobbie lived at her home until 2014, when she moved to Tacoma, WA , where her son Rick lived. She was sad to move, but her dementia made it impossible for her to live at her home. She adjusted and enjoyed life at Merrill Gardens, where she had a lovely apartment and was quite independent. Rick and his wife, Linda, lived nearby and attended activities regularly with her at Merrill Gardens. Bobbie was active in the daily exercise class, and enjoyed the live music every Friday afternoon. She made many new friends there. She suffered a hip fracture in May of this year, which led to several hospitalizations. She passed away peacefully.
She is survived by her two sons, and all 7 grandchildren. She will be buried alongside her husband Bill, who passed away in 2008.
The venue has changed from the original plan; there will be a double memorial service to celebrate the life of her and her sister Virginia Copley, at Bratcher Funeral Home at 11:00 am on Saturday October 20, 2018 with Jerry Coffman officiating.
Bobbie was a faithful believer. She had assurance that she would be in heaven, with her Lord and Savior.
