There was a celebration in heaven as Betty Jean Davis, departed this world on Wednesday, October 24, 2012. Jean was born November 5, 1933 to Stayton and Lula Maddux in Ranger, Texas. She was married to her true love, R.B. Davis, on August 11, 1950 and they made their home in various towns in Oklahoma and Texas before settling in Denison in 1960.
Everyone who knew Jean knew that she put others before herself and God above all. She was a humble and inspiring woman whose faith never wavered and her mission field was anywhere she happened to be. She offered her advice to anyone that wanted it and offered her heart and home to anyone who needed it. She was privileged to have the opportunity to do mission work in Romania and Japan, and spent seven years serving at the Texarkana Baptist Orphanage. She was faithful her entire life in church and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. She loved her family and friends with all her heart and never met a person she couldn’t love or didn’t try to help. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a delight to her and they loved being at her home. The best food, hugs, back-scratches, and fun times were at Gramm Camp.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers and survived by her sister, Mary Carter, and brother, Wayne Maddux.
She is survived by daughter Tawana Crawford and her husband, Bud, of New Castle, Virginia, Ricky Davis and his wife, Roni, of Denison, Texas, and Sherri Lamar and her husband, Kenny, of Pottsboro, Texas and by grandchildren Nicole Donihoo, Crystal Roberts, Cliff Davis, Carla Davis, Danielle Lamar, and great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Madison, Tyson, Kaymann, Caiden, and Jackson.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Bratcher Funeral Home, Denison, Texas.
Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 29, 2012 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 2401 W. Morton St., Denison, Texas with Rev. Paul Denny and Rev. Kevin Clinton officiating.
Pallbearers will be Cliff Davis, Richard Parker, Brandon Roberts, Jay Donihoo, Ruel Davis, Justin Glenn, James Pickens, and Stanley Pickens.
