Toby Ruth Steinberg, beloved and energetic wife, mother, daughter and sister, passed away on Friday, October 11, at age 83. Toby was born in Boston to Leo and Selma Gross, graduated from Newton High, and married Jordan Steinberg of Brookline the day after she turned 19 in 1960. Married for 64 years, they created idyllic childhoods for Don, Steven and Susan, instilling them with passion to create, a strong sense of justice and a love of wordplay. After earning a degree in accounting from Simmons College in 1978, Toby launched a bookkeeping service for local businesses and nonprofits, which she called Calculating Females, employing other women who were returning to the workforce. She taught accounting at Mount Ida College, mentored students, and generously gave time and donations to many causes. Toby and Jordan spent their retirement years in Singer Island, Fla. The family will hold a ceremony at 11:45 at Sharon Memorial Park on Wednesday Oct. 16.
