She is survived by her daughter Arlene Gleason (Miner), her son Jeffrey Butvinik (Joan Clowes), grandchildren Rachel King (Eric), David Gleason, and Laura Butvinik, great-granddaughter Emory King and nephew Steven Rabinowitz (Ronna Eisenberg). She is predeceased by her parents Isador and Lena (Wolvovsky), her husband of 46 years Leonard, her brother Sidney Rabinowitz, sister-in-law Audrey, grandson Michael Butvinik and niece Susan Rabinowitz.
Miriam was born on September 5, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in Carteret and Newark, NJ. Miriam and Leonard raised their family in Bayonne, NJ, during which time Miriam worked for several years as a bookkeeper. Miriam also was active in the community, serving as a PTA President and engaging in a number of volunteer projects. With retirement, Miriam and Leonard moved to Delray Beach, FL, where Miriam enjoyed an active life, filled with travel, volunteer work, close friends and her favorite soap operas. Miriam eventually moved to Woodland Terrace in Cary, NC to be closer to her daughter Arlene and family. At Woodland Terrace, Miriam was heard to remark on more than one occasion “Florida mah jongg is much more challenging and fun than North Carolina mah jongg.”
Miriam will be remembered by family and friends for her smile, laugh, care and concern and her remarkable memory.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, December 8 at 1:30 pm at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens, 11520 State Rd. 7, Boynton Beach, Florida.
