Terry Paul Dore', a faithful and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to many, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024 at the Heart Hospital in Lafayette, with Fr. Tom at his bedside with family saying the Litany of the Saints. He was 76.
Terry was born September 6, 1947 in Delcambre to the late LeRoy Dore' and the late Lelia Viator Dore', one of seven children born to that union. He was raised in a family steeped with cajun heritage, who knew the value of faith and hard work. As a child he attended school in Delcambre and was a proud graduate of Delcambre High School, Class of 1965. He worked with Jefferson Island Salt Mine as an Operations Supervisor and retired with many years of faithful service.
Terry lived a life devoted to his Catholic faith, family and friends, and his beloved community of Delcambre. As a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Terry served in various capacities such as Eucharistic Minister, Sacristan, Altar Server and Lector. In his many years in Delcambre, Terry ministered to the families who lost a loved one, by leading the recitation of the Holy Rosary and praying for the repose of their soul. He did this without hesitation of thought, and with the gift and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. He truly had a "servant’s heart" placing his need after those of others.
And it goes without saying that as much of his life he gave to the Lord, he gave that same love and energy to his family. This man never stopped. As his daughters shared, "Terry always took care of work first, then made time to play after". He loved being home and took pride in making sure all was clean and well maintained. The times Terry did leave his home, was with Christine and the family for sun and relaxation on the beaches of Gulfshores, or a quiet rest in the mountains of Tennessee. There was also a fun side to Terry, as he could bring a smile to your face and laughter to everyone around sharing a joke. He never met a stranger and extended his hand in friendship to all he met.
Above all else, Terry's greatest joy was that of his family. They completed his life and brought endless happiness to him. We rejoice in knowing that Terry is not gone on from us, only gone on before us. He has earned his heavenly reward and we have the promise of one day reuniting with him. Until that beautiful day, may his soul and the souls of the faithfully departed rest in peace. We love you.
