Angie Z. Pinuelas, daughter of Odilon R. Zaragoza and Manuela M. Morales, was born in Delano, CA. on August 9, 1927 and passed away at the age of 93 on Wednesday, July 7, 2021. Angie grew up in Delano and was very involved in her community. Among her many accomplishments, Angie was a member of the Latin American Citizen’s Association (LACA), where she was elected president in 1972; she was an active member of Delano’s Cinco de Mayo for over 41 years, where she not only served as Director of the Queen Show several times, but was also the 1st woman to be selected as Grand Marshall of the Cinco de May Fiesta in 1979 and later shared the Grand Marshall title again with past Grand Marshalls at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Cinco de Mayo in 2007; she was also one of the founding members of the Mexican American Pioneers Organization, which was started in 1983; she was involved in the committee to name Delano city streets to honor Delano Mexican pioneer families; she was Queen of the 16th of September celebration in Delano; and she was also a member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church choir for 8 years, where she sang every Sunday during the 11:00 am mass. Aside from her many endeavors, many people knew Angie in her day-to-day life as a salesclerk at J.C. Penny Co., where she worked for 27 years.
Angie is survived by her two sons, David Z Pinuelas and Steve Z. Pinuelas, and she is preceded in death by her parents Odilon R. Zaragoza and Manuela M. Zaragoza, and her husband Jesse C. Pinuelas.
