As a child, Tommy delighted in sharing adventures with his family while traveling across the U.S. and abroad due to his father’s service in the U.S. Air Force. He also enjoyed a spirited sibling rivalry with his sisters, Charlotte and Debra, forming bonds that lasted a lifetime.
In January 1977, Tommy met the love of his life, Tawanna Gaines. Their whirlwind romance led to marriage on August 6, 1977. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised three children: Kimberly, Matthew, and Sarah.
Tommy was a proud graduate of Midwest City High School. He began his career with Frisco/Burlington Northern Railroad, steadily advancing within the company. While working full-time, he pursued higher education, earning a business degree from Dallas Baptist University. In the later years of his career, Tommy worked for Conway Freight Services, always demonstrating a strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to providing for his family.
Tommy's joyful and adventurous nature brought delight to his family and friends. Over the years, he could be found camping with loved ones, slalom skiing at the lake, bowling with his family, playing eighteen holes on the golf course, swinging the bat with his church softball league, constructing intricate train sets in the garage, wrenching with cars, and flying radio-controlled planes.
A devoted Christian, Tommy lived his faith through action and service. He cherished his church community and joyfully participated in activities such as choir, Christmas plays, Promise Keepers ministry events, and the Christian Covenant Riders Motorcycle Ministry. At home, Tommy was a steadfast spiritual leader, encouraging his family to cultivate a personal relationship with Christ.
Tommy is now reunited in Heaven with his parents, Carlos and Helen, and his sister Charlotte. He is deeply missed by his loving wife of 47 years, Tawanna; their children, Kimberly, Matthew, and Sarah; grandchildren Anthony, Makaylah, Aliyah, and Levi; great-grandchild Iris; and his sister Debra.
Psalm 128:3-4: "Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Yes, this will be the blessing for the man who fears the Lord."
