Thelma Delores King, or TJ as she preferred to be called, was 84 years old, sleeping comfortably in the presence of those she loved most when she was called home by her Lord and Savior on November 16, 2024, in her home in Norman, OK.
The youngest of ten children, she was born March 30th, 1940, in Oklahoma City, OK to her parents John and Sadie Armstrong. TJ graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1958, lettering in several sports. Prior to graduating, she met her first husband, Bill Johnson, whom she wed on April 6, 1957. Their union brought two daughters, Pamela, and Renee. With whom she imparted her indominable spirit through example.
TJ was steadfast and constantly driven to succeed in any endeavor she undertook. She started out in the warehouse and rose in the ranks to be a buyer at Baker and Taylor Book Company. Later in life, she continued to exemplify strength and determination when she did the same in her career in civil service for the Federal government. She began that career in the secretary pool at Tinker Air Force Base and was swiftly promoted for her work ethic. She was an integral member of the classified B-2 bomber program and was awarded many accolades in recognition for her commitment before retiring in 2008.
TJ loved riding horses, a passion she took up young age in her quarter horse club with her lifelong friends, June and Judy. She gifted her experience and passion to future generations to enjoy, riding with both her children and grandchildren. If there was one thing anyone knew about TJ, it was her insurmountable devotion to her family. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren, spoiling them all relentlessly. TJ began attending Trinity Holiness Church of Norman with her sister Helen and remained a devout member of that congregation until her death.
TJ is survived by her daughters Pamela Marlowe of Norman, OK and Renee Mize of Oklahoma City, along with her husband, Lynn, her grandchildren, Brandie and Justin Irwin, Weston and Angie Mize, Lance and Shannon Rainbow, and Keaton Mize, and her great-grandchildren Alex, Trent, and Katy-Lynn Irwin, and Levi and Lexi Rainbow, also, many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
TJ was preceded in death by her parents John and Sadie Armstrong, as well as her siblings, Florence Rhines, Rose Armstrong, Lela V Brown, Allie Richardson, Opal Smith, W.J. Armstrong, Helen Young, Ima Jean Rushing, and Earl Armstrong.
Pastor Delbert Taylor will be officiating her service.
Weston Mize, Lance Rainbow, Keaton Mize, Alex Irwin, Trent Irwin, Levi Rainbow, and Lynn Mize will act as pallbearers.
