Steve was born February 20, 1956 in Enid, OK to Mark and Sue Long. He graduated from Enid High School in 1974 where he was the drum major of the Plainsmen band. In October of the same year, Steve enlisted in the Navy. After being stationed in Naples, Italy in 1975, Steve married Peggy Nelson of Enid, OK in January of 1976. In August of 1977 while still in Italy, their daughter Jessica was born. After moving back stateside, their son JD was born in April of 1979. Steve was discharged from the Navy in May of 1980, and the family moved to Enid where he worked for NATCO for the next 20 years. Following a transfer to Guthrie, OK, Steve began work on his Bachelor’s Degree in Operations Management, which he completed in 1997 and then earned his Master’s Degree in Industrial Safety in 1999, both from the University of Central Oklahoma. In 2003, Steve began work at Tinker Air Force Base where he found his “Tinker family.”
In his spare time, Steve enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed watching his grandson Zane play baseball.
Steve was preceded in death by his father Mark Long, step-father Marvin Goodpasture, and his brother Patrick Long.
Steve is survived by his mother Sue Goodpasture of Enid, OK, his daughter Jessica Miller, her husband Gary, and grandson Zane of Stillwater, OK, and his son JD Long of Oklahoma City.
In lieu of flowers, Steve’s family asks that donations be made to Susie’s Senior Dogs (www.susiesseniordogs.com). Steve has always loved having dogs and later in his life made the choice to take in senior dogs that needed to be rehomed.
