Roy was born on December 24, 1944 to Roy Murtrain Haney Sr. and Lucille Virney Haney in Sulphur, Oklahoma. Roy has two sisters, Bobbie Lee Guinn of Oklahoma City and Lois Jean Conway of Oklahoma City. He has one brother, Tommy Gene Haney and wife Deborah of Durant, Oklahoma. Roy has three nieces, four nephews, four great-nieces, and four great-nephews.
Roy loved his country and served in the U. S. Army from August 12, 1967 to August 18, 1971. Roy worked in the Army as an amphibious engineer. After he left the military, he continued to be a mechanic, working for several shops. Eventually, Roy changed occupations and became a locksmith at his brother-in-law’s lock shop, Davis Lock Shop. Dave taught him everything he would need to know about being a good locksmith. In time, Roy took over the lock shop until he retired.
Roy loved cars, especially the older ones. He bought and restored a 1962 Chevrolet pickup and began to attend car shows where he won several trophies and plaques. Roy also became a miniature golf fan and traveled around and played in tournaments. He was very good at it, too! Another one of his favorite things to do was go to the casino.
Roy believed in God and when I asked him a couple of weeks before he passed, he said, “Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior”.
