Bob attended Oklahoma City Schools, graduating from Northeast High School in 1964. Bob was an outstanding athlete playing football, wrestling, and excelling in his lifelong passion, baseball, where he earned All-State Honors. He led the OSU Cowboys to a runner up finish in the College World Series in 1966 being unanimously named as the Series All Star 3rd Baseman. OSU named Bob as the outstanding player at his position, for the first 50 years of OSU baseball. Bob signed with the Atlanta Braves and played six years of professional baseball. Bob entered the financial services business at the end of his baseball career. He advanced to Senior Vice President and built a business which positively affected the lives of clients and associates across this country. Bob was always eager to share his time, talent and resources to help all of God’s Kingdom.
He rescued and adopted stray animals. He coached the neighborhood kid’s baseball and softball teams. He originated the high school baseball team at Christian Heritage Academy, leading that program to multiple state championships. Bob presented the “Truth Project” to many church congregations in Oklahoma.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Janet; sons, Robert Toney and wife Vanessa of MWC, Chris Toney and wife Jennifer of Enid; daughters, Cara Alsup and husband Quinn of Choctaw, and Kelley Toney; brother, Walter Toney and wife Dorothy of Yukon; grandchildren, Tanner, Tiffani, Courtney, Morgan, Kaylee and Brylee Toney, Gage and Brynlee Alsup, and Bray Toney. There are 10 nieces and nephews, and 7 great nieces and nephews who will miss Uncle Bob. Bob enjoyed playing on his acreage with grandchildren, cheering for all OSU teams and even the Sooner football teams of 2000-2002, due to his son Chris playing for them.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Christian Heritage Academy Athletic Program/Student Aide. A formal visitation will be from 6p.m. to 8p.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at the Bill Eisenhour Southeast Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 9, 2011 at the Christian Heritage Academy in Del City. A graveside will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Plainview Cemetery in Weatherford, OK.
