Marjorie Jean Pope of Midwest City, Oklahoma, was called to her eternal rest on February 21, 2024. Born on August 11, 1947, she embraced a life devoted to the pursuit of artistic expression and the noble profession of education, enriching the lives of countless individuals with her wisdom and talent.
Marjorie graduated from Midwest City High School in 1965 and went on to further her education for many years. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1969 from Central State College (UCO); as well as her Masters in Education in 1983 and Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1993 from the University of Oklahoma.
Beginning her career in education, she taught one year in reform school. This led her into a lasting career with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections teaching incarcerated students to read and obtain a GED. Marjorie spent her last years of her career training others to become teachers within the Department of Corrections. After retirement from teaching, Marjorie continued in the workforce for many years with Lowe’s Home Improvement until the age of 62.
Marjorie was an avid quilter and respected member of the Mid-Del Stitchin’ Sisters Quilt Guild. She completed and gifted numerous Quilts of Valor for US Military Veterans, as well as Hearts and Hands quilts for members of her quilt guild. She also crocheted, painted, made screen prints and ceramics. Art was an integral part of who Marjorie was and her art graces many homes and she will be fondly remembered through her gifts and thoughtfulness.
Marjorie leaves behind a loving family: her brothers, Tom Pope of Clinton, OK, and Bill Pope with his wife Ruth of Boerne, TX; Robert Pope of Midwest City, OK . Sister in Law Jan Pope of Edmond, OK; Wanda Dillard of Midwest City, OK and her sister, Pat Miller alongside her husband Darrell of Noble, OK. She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in passing were her esteemed parents, Roy and Jean Pope, and her brother, David Pope.
Marjorie Jean Pope's legacy is immortalized in the many hearts she touched throughout her years. Her memory will be eternally cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A memorial service for Marjorie will be held at 2pm Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, 5005 SE 29th Street, Del City, OK 73115.
