Helen Elizabeth Wood, 93, died peacefully in her sleep on June 22, 2015 in Midwest City, OK. She was born on December 8, 1921 in OKC, OK to George Edward and Mary (Hall) Cassady. Helen graduated from Crooked Oak High School and married Harley, the love of her life, on April 1, 1946. During Harley’s Army career, Helen worked as a civil service personal secretary on base and was very proud to serve her country and to be a military wife and mother. She was a gracious hostess who was active in the community by being in the Order of the Eastern Star and participated in many other organizations and activities over the years. Helen and Harley were stationed in France in the 1950’s and later shared their passion for traveling cross country to attend rallies in their Airstream travel trailer. They also loved to sail on Princess Cruises to explore new places and meet new friends. Helen was a devout Christian and attended Tinker Chapel services until her health began to fail. Her spunky personality, razor-sharp sense of humor and joie de vivre will be missed by all who knew her. She was a delightful, classy, yet down to earth conversationalist who could put anyone at ease with her laughter and twinkly blue eyes. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Harley Wood; her only child, Ronald, an Army lieutenant was killed in action in Vietnam in 1968; brother, Colonel Walter Cassady; sisters, Bernadine Aynes Wiegand and Mary Ruth Priddy; nephews, Mark Dalke and Michael Priddy.
