Freida Lois Evans, 86, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2022, in Edmond, Oklahoma. One of four children born to Marion Emerald Flippo and Daisy Grace (Bonner) Flippo, Freida was born in Wright City, Oklahoma on December 12, 1935. The family was one of modest means and, while some might have chafed at their circumstance, Freida had an innate sense of acceptance and equanimity that defined her throughout her life. She was a woman with an easy smile who laughed often and seemingly never met a stranger.
Although Freida was widowed twice in her lifetime, first by the death of her first husband Lee Roy Westbrook in 1970, and later by the death of her second husband Alfred Milton Evans, Sr. in 1997, she had no children of her own. Instead, she doted on her niece, Harmony Carol Williams, and her two nephews, Alan Gordon Williams and Bill Powell Guest. Harmony recalls fondly, “The thing I loved most about her was the acceptance and unconditional love she showed me. Always. Some of my most cherished childhood memories include visiting her for three weeks every summer. She lived on 47 acres close to Wright City, Oklahoma, complete with livestock, a garden, lots of chores and even an outhouse! But it was great. Bill, Al, and I always looked forward to going and she always greeted us with love and enjoyed us as much as we enjoyed being with her. She is missed now and will always remain in my heart.”
Freida is survived by her sisters Patricia Elaine Flippo Powell Guest (Patti) and Nancy Louise Flippo Williams Barre (Louise), and by her niece, Harmony Carol Williams, and nephew, Alan Gordon Williams. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Marion Cecil Flippo, and nephew Bill Powell Guest.
The family would like to thank the staff of Bradford Village Healthcare Center and Good Shepherd Hospice, who lovingly attended to Freida during her last months. A private service will be held at a later time.
