Wow 15 months .....I miss my good friend. There is an empty piece of our world of music and fun missing ......the hurt and sadness that Mike's family feels - will never go away. I keep attending Mt. Matthews masses to pray for his spirit. 

In a monolithic organization like Sony Music, you learn to appreciate the talented people who also happen to be really nice human beings. Michael was one of those, and even though our interactions were infrequent, he always smiled and gave more than he had to.  I'm happy to have met him, and am saddened by his passing.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   

Without Mike, I would have felt like 'Major Tom' since Sony Classical moved its international headquarters from New York to Berlin in 2009. Although our offices are 6387 km / 3969 miles apart, I used to call Mike ‘my colleague next door’. Mike was my scout, my ‘ground control’ in the Sony Music Archives. His quick and in-depth research made me forget that we worked from different continents, both aiming for the best possible release. Mike’s name is therefore rightly associated with two Grammy-nominated -- and one Grammy-winning -- Best Historical Releases by Sony Classical.

What impressed me most was Mike’s deep respect for artists of all genres, from opera diva, to conductor, to songwriter, to jazz musician. It made my day when Mike shared his great enthusiasm for one of our classical editions in his typical ‘full length’ feedback:  “Oscar L - Looking Great !!!! - Mike”

My deepest condolences to the entire Panico family. I met Mike many years ago at Sony Archives and through his unselfish nature and good humor we struck up not only a wonderful business relationship but a friendship that was cemented by our common love of jazz, hockey and the history of music and recordings. May Mike rest in peace.

Mike was a long-time friend for over 25 years. I traveled extensively with him throughout Europe, seeing many shows and experiencing music together. Mike (or 'MP' as I called him) was not only an astounding, reliable co-worker whom I relied on daily - he was a solid guy who just GOT IT. Musically, philosophically and intellectually.  His loss has impacted me in such a profound way - and I cannot fathom the deep sense of loss felt throughout the entire Panico squad. MP was not 'just another co-worker' - he was a unique human with so much impact on this world - and on me. I'll miss my man, MP. I wish you all peace. God bless.

I met Mike through the record business and only briefly but my memories of him - smart, funny, passionate - bring some healing and comfort in a difficult time.  I wish for all family and friends that they find some of the same.

I had the honor of working with Mike for several years during my time at Sony. He was truly an exceptional human being. He would always go out of his way to help make my job easier. He didn’t have to, but he did. I never took it for granted. I was always so grateful for him and always made it a point to tell him how much I appreciated him. He was a treasure. He will be greatly missed. Sending my most heartfelt condolences. 

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Panico and family,

Please accept my deepest condolences.  Mike and I became friends at age 14, and best friends shortly thereafter.  We traveled Europe, moved to Manhattan, and moved to California together and had the time of our lives.  So much fun and great memories.  We lost touch over the last 10 years or so, other than the occasional email, which I now regret.

Mike was a complex guy with many layers.  Super bright with a heart of gold, never selfish or materialistic, and a tremendous passion for music and travel.  To quote Shaw, "There are those that look at things the way they are, and ask why?  Mike dreamed of things that never were, and asked why not?

Mike's greatest love was reserved for family.  He was a bright light, and so sadly gone before his time.  I will think of him often and miss him greatly.  The world is a less interesting place without him!

I knew Michael briefly from some small record business items and from some lovely meals I shared with him and others.  This has to be an impossibly difficult time but I hope the best and most positive memories of Mike provide comfort and healing.  He was a unique person and I’ll miss him and remember him fondly.

Please accept my deepest condolences for your family's loss.   I became friendly with Michael at Sony Music.   Michael possessed a great soul.  A soul filled with curiosity of the world, music, people and pizza.     A great soul never dies, they live on in the happiest of memories and images that remain with each of us.     I cherish my memories of Tom greatly.
