Mary “Lucille” Pierce-DeVille was born January 12, 1929 in Newport News, Virginia to Alethia (Odell) Freeman and James E. Pierce. Lucille entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 25, 2011.
Lucille grew up in Newport News, Virginia and later moved to Harlem, New York where she met and later married Leon R. DeVille Jr. in May of 1947. That 43 year union brought forth Donald, Jacqueline, Robin and Leon III. That marital bond was broken only by the untimely passing of her beloved husband in November of 1989.
Lucille lived in Wyandanch, New York for over 60 years. For more than 15 years, she was known in the community as Dr. Taylor’s receptionist. She was employed briefly as a factory worker, but her greatest accomplishment was a wife, mother and grandmother.
A faithful and committed member of the Trinity Lutheran Church for over 50 years, Lucille was a senior member of the altar guild. She was known for being on hand at a moments notice to assist with baptisms, weddings, funerals, repasts and seasonal events at the church. Through her duties she developed a long lasting business relationship with the owner of “Ye Little Flower Shop” in Lindenhurst. That relationship ensured fresh flowers for every occasion at Trinity Lutheran. Her devotion was also recognized by the local law enforcement that ensured her safe arrival to the Trinity Lutheran every Saturday.
Lucille is survived by son, Donald DeVille of Wyandanch; daughter, Jacqueline DeVille of Queens; daughter Robin and her husband Mark Arrington of Highland Mills; Leon III of Tampa, Fl., Grandchildren James Corey, Tina Marie, Roderick Glynn, Waverly Martin, Leon IV, Lael Remiah, Branden Michael, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends who sincerely mourn the homecoming of this beautiful soul.
She was predeceased by her parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister, and her beloved husband.
