Our charismatic and beautiful son, Kevin Anand, was born on June 9, 1986, to Dave and Chano Itwaru. Heaven gained an angel on February 28, 2020. A tragic day that will forever etched in our memory and hearts.
Kevin was born and raised in a loving home in Deer Park, NY with his older sister, Christina. Kevin was passionate about music and education at a young age. Kevin loved to go on vacations with his sister and parents where he visited places like Hawaii, Paris, London, Alaska, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Kevin was adventurous and welcomed challenges such as skydiving and skiing. His bravery allowed him to take lessons in scuba diving and completed a triathlon (biking, swimming in New York frigid water in April and running), half a marathon and 5K runs. He earned a first-degree black belt in karate and a certificate to be a lifeguard. He regularly donated blood because of his unique blood type.
Kevin graduated from Deer Park High School with Honors. He was self-motivated and excelled in music and math. In 8th grade, Kevin was chosen to play his trumpet during a life taping of Sesame Street show. Kevin gained a scholarship to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering. Following graduation, Kevin explored his limitless potential. He worked for Suffolk County as an engineer in the Water Resource Management group to help improve the water quality for the residents of Long Island. He was an active member of Deer Park Community Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir, performed and played various musical instruments during worship services, and special performances. He was very involved in the youth group, volunteered at soup kitchens, and served on a mission trip to El Salvador, Central America.
Kevin was known for enriching people’s lives through music. He played the piano, guitar, trumpet, flute, Shakuhachi, accordion and all types of electronic instruments. Kevin also taught himself to play the sitar and recorded many Bollywood style instrumentals. He played in several bands, including “The Guests,” “Motion Ocean,” and most recently “Non Stop To Cairo.” He performed in many events and live performances playing the piano, trumpet, flute and sitar in and around Long Island and New York City, upstate New York and Boston.
Kevin was also artistic and created/painted many canvas paintings, charcoal drawings and acrylic art. The last things he painted were Princesses Elsa and Anna from Frozen for his nieces. Kevin utilized his engineering skills to carve and design amazing woodworking masterpieces such as nameplates, cutting boards, photo frames, etc., using the CNC machine. Kevin was multi-talented and had a vast knowledge in many topics. Kevin looked like he had it all –loving/supportive family and friends, musical and artistic talent, intelligence, charm, ability, beautiful & broad smile, fantastic wit, infectious laugh and the ability to engage and forge a relationship with anyone. Kevin’s presence will be deeply missed by his parents, his sister, Christina Coleman (Ron), his two nieces Sloane and Diem and his 29 aunts and uncles, 28 cousins and many lifelong friends.
