Dale Owen Standridge

Dale Owen Standridge, 67, of Decatur, Alabama passed away Wednesday, March 1st 2023. Visitation will be on Saturday, March 4th from 2:30 to 3:30 at Roselawn Funeral Home. The celebration of life will begin at 3:30 with Pastor Mike Mefford officiating. He will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery immediately following.

Born on May 7, 1955, Dale was a life-long Decatur resident, attending Austin High School and then Calhoun Community College. Dale was employed at BP for almost 40 years demonstrating his long-standing loyalty. His commitment to excellence lead to his quick ascension through the ranks from maintenance to Planning Lead. His peers acknowledged his strategic mind and willingness to roll up his sleeves and show them the way. He could always be counted on to entertain them with his “passionate” commentary when problem solving. His bark was bigger than his bite, and his colleagues will remember him as a resourceful leader who positively impacted those around him.

At home, Dale, better known as Paw Paw, was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. A visit to Paw Paw’s could be counted on for laughter and spoiling mixed in with love, a little guidance, and more laughter. Always laughter. His grandchildren were his greatest joy. He spent countless hours with them teaching them the important things in life like how to ride a bike and how to catch a ball. Trips to the store would result in candy, toys, and all the chocolate their hearts desired. The only rule at Paw Paw’s was “there are no rules save bodily injury.”

Dale was passionate about The Tide and was armchair assistant to Nick Saban. Spend a game day with Paw Paw and you just might hear a bad word or two, leading Maw Maw to ask us to “cover those baby’s ears!” He loved Harley Davidsons, and later in life, his cats named Harley and Sissy.

Paw Paw hated potholes and bad drivers. He hated being asked at a drive-thru to pull past the window and wait. He had no patience for all manners and levels of incompetence. He will be remembered by his family as our personal engineer and mechanic. He could fix anything. He loved to do it, but it might not seem like it during the process… He was always there to help. He was a generous man and will be remembered for having a caring heart under a sometimes tough exterior.

Dale is survived by his wife Sherry and their children Caroline Garnett (David), Trent Standridge, Kristy Wharton (Mike), Michael Trupiano, and Mark Trupiano (Dawn); his grandchildren Christina Diaz (Nate), Samantha Vickers, Luke and Merrell Garnett, and Lillie Trupiano and his (s)grandchildren Ryan and Sarah Wharton and Kevin Wilcox; and his great-grandchild Jase Diaz. He is also survived by his brother James Standridge and his sister Alice Kelly (Maurice); his nieces Laura Kelly (Mark Mullican) and Leah Boyd (Tyler), and his nephew Brian Kelly (Ashley). He was preceded in death by his parents Ruth and William Standridge.
