William Richard Estep was born on October 28, 1942 in Beech Mountain, North Carolina to Roscoe and Stella Estep. Richard had a difficult life, especially in the early years, but still managed to get to Dayton, serve in the Army, eventually go to school, get a degree and get a job at the Veteran's Administration as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist. He was so proud of what he had learned and become that whenever speaking to someone about a medical condition he preferred to use the “big words” as family called it instead of speaking in layman's terms. Aside from talking medical “stuff” Richard was very knowledgeable about the bible, loved to talk about it and preach whenever given the opportunity. He was an ordained minister and a member of The Way of the Cross Church for 55 years. During many of those years he also served as a board member.
Richard loved his family and loved to buy for his grandchildren. He enjoyed working with wood and built many items to give to family members. He was known for his long pretty white hair and always tried to make sure it was kept very tidy and cut just right.
Richard married Winnie Winningham on July 12, 1997. They had known each other for many years and had both lost a spouse through death. Winnie was the love of his life and they were able to have 23 loving years together before she passed away on May 10, 2021. Richard is survived by 2 daughters, Jaime Dunn and Amanda (Eddie) Wagers, 2 step daughters Teresa (Edwin) Jones and Vivian (Pete) Slivinski, grandchildren Edward and Emma Wagers, Ivy, Corbin, Gracelyn, Macayla and Dylan Dunn, step grandchildren Michael and Amber (deceased) Greer, Amanda (Brandon) Horn and Petie (Lindsay) Slivinski, step great grandchildren Corey, Kelsey, Tatum, Remi and Liliana and step great-great grandchild Theo. Richard also has a brother Paul Estep (and his close friend Debbie), half-sister Betty, step mother Helen and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife, Winnie Estep, his parents Roscoe and Stella Estep, and siblings Gaynell and Jeanette.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 29, 2021, and funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2021 at the Way of the Cross Church, 612 Beatrice Dr. Dayton, Oh 45404 with Pastor and best friend William R Loudermilk officiating. Burial service will immediately follow at the Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.
