Virginia Amburgy, age 93 passed away September 14, 2022, after a brief illness. Virginia was born in Booneville Kentucky on April 13,1929 to the late James Shepherd and Bertha Caywood Shepherd. Virginia was proceeded in death by her husband Clyde, sister Nancy Shepherd Campbell, brother Wilson Shepherd, sister-n-law Clara Shepherd, and very special nephew Michael Thomas Campbell.
She is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. Special thanks to all those who remained devoted to Virginia in her last years including her cousin Virginia Louise McIntosh, cousin Kevin Lynch and dear friends Junith Alexander, Donnie and Vickie Moore, Carrie Million, Linda Smith, Marge Cook and Miho Sasaki.
Virginia was a graduate of Owsley County High School, class of 1948. In 1951, Virginia married Clyde Amburgy, the son of the late Dale and Mag Amburgy. Early in their marriage, Clyde and Virginia moved to the Dayton, Ohio area, and made their home in Centerville, Ohio for over 60 years. During her long career, Virginia worked at NCR, Sunshine Biscuit Company, MacMillan Bloedel, and Avery Dennison, where she finally retired at age 85.
Virginia was a great cook and loved to entertain family and friends. She was an avid University of Kentucky Wildcats fan and enjoyed watching college basketball. Throughout her lifetime, Virginia was a devoted caregiver to many family members including her sister, nephew, father, mother, father-in-law, and husband. In her later years, Virginia was cared for in her home by caregivers, including good friends and neighbors of 37 years, Ed and Mary Lovett. Virginia was beloved by all who knew her and will be truly missed by her family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors.
Visitation will be September 23, 2022, at 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, with services starting at 1:00 PM. Burial will be immediately following the services at the Miami Valley Memory Gardens, Centerville, Ohio 45458.
