Ruth Ellen Reed

Ruth Ellen Reed age 91, passed away at The Sanctuary at Wilmington Place on August 26, 2023. She was born in Oak Park, Illinois on May 28, 1932 to parents Ernest C. and Flora E. (Belt) Reed who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was a brother; Ernest C. Reed Jr. of Maryland.

She is survived by second cousin, Agnes Reed-Davis (husband Mark) and children, Andre and Joel of Bel Air, Maryland; second cousin, Carmen Viera and children Pedro and Angelo of Edgewater, Florida and Dayton, Ohio; and sister-in-law, Renata Reed of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Ruth was very loved by her family. She will always be remembered as a gentle and loving soul. Ruth was very devoted to her parents. She loved spending time with friends and family.

Ruth graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1954. She later worked as a technical librarian for WPAFB in Dayton, Ohio. Ruth had a strong passion for learning and reading. She also loved listening to classical music and attending Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and Dayton Opera concerts.

She was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church in Dayton, Ohio. She participated in the church’s homebuilders’ adult class. Ruth also devoted her time to many causes including the local Humane Society of Greater Dayton and the Philanthropic Educational Organization which sponsors a variety of scholarships for women.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, 09/12/2023 at 11:00 AM at Dayton Memorial Park, 8135 N Dixie Dr. Dayton, Ohio 45414.
