He was born November 7, 1926 in Dayton, Ohio.
He attended St. Anthony Grade School and
Chaminade High School – Graduated 1944
First drum major in Chaminade’s first marching band, 1941.
Bob was a lifelong NCR employee, starting as a stock boy, 1944, in building 26 during the military code breaker effort. He graduated with an Engineering Design apprenticeship and retired in 1991. A U.S. Army veteran, Bob served in Okinawa during the Korean conflict 1950 – 1952. Bob was an avid roller skater, entering the Ohio State dance competition in 1946. He was very active in the Catholic Young Peoples Club (CYPC) in Dayton where he made lifelong friends and met his wife Betty Ratermann, from Sidney Ohio. They were married June 8, 1957 at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Sidney, Ohio. Bob enjoyed singing and was active with the NCR Men’s Chorus, the Dayton Men Singers, the Choraleers, and St. Albert the Great Church choir. Bob and Betty were members of St Albert the Great Catholic Church since 1958.
Bob enjoyed traveling with his family in both the states and overseas. Bob and Betty had many lifelong friends, participating in Bridge Club, Pinochle Club, and the neighborhood Gourmet Group.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, parents William G. & Marie (Bosch) Roeckner, sisters Mary Anne Witt, Dorothy Ulrich, Patricia Fleury, brother John W. (Jack) Roeckner, and many relatives. He is survived by sons Robert C. Jr. (Diane) of Batavia, Ohio, William J. (Karen), Seneca, South Carolina, Richard G., Treasure Island, Florida, daughter Anne E. White (Glenn), Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Grandchildren Robert C. Roeckner III, (Patti), Joseph H. Roeckner (Adrienne), Emmalyn A. Roeckner, Gregory W. Roeckner, Alyssa R. Roeckner, Stephanie K. Roeckner, Kevin M. Roeckner (Jordan), Alexis M. Ferri (Alex), Kenton R. Roeckner. Great grandchildren Blake, Annabelle, Andy, Declan Roeckner, Aurora Ferri. Sisters-in-law Catherine Custenborder and Kathy Ratermann, as well as many nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held at St. Leonard Catholic Church, 8100 Clyo Rd. Centerville, OH 45458 on Friday, January 6th starting at 10:00am. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00am. Burial at Calvary Cemetery immediately following Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton or St. Vincent de Paul.
