Pennington, Ricky L “Rick,” age 59, passed away on October 16 after a long battle with Cholangiocarcinoma. He was born Oct 12, 1962 in Lafollette, Tennessee to Homer and Kathleen Pennington, and was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Barbara and his brother Homer, Jr.
Rick was a graduate of Kiser High School in Old North Dayton and Wright State University and worked first as an Environmental Chemist and then as a Compliance Coordinator for the Montgomery County Environmental Laboratory for 30 years, retiring on October 8 of this year. Rick was active as a KABC baseball coach, coaching both his sons from T-Ball on up to senior division, and was a commissioner for many years. He was a member of the Indian Guides where he had many memorable experiences with his sons and the wonderful friends he made in the group. Rick loved sports of all kinds and was a walking encyclopedia. He was an excellent softball player and avid trivia buff, and loved playing games and rooting for the Bengals and Ohio State.
Most importantly, Rick loved his family and friends and was loved in return. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Kathy, sons Ryan and Eric, siblings Wanda Dople, Steve (Jackie), Glenn (Laurie), James (Erica), and Angie Pennington. Rick also had numerous nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, aunts/uncles, and mother-in-law, Margaret Arnold, who loved him like her own son.
Visitors will be welcome on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Tobias Funeral Home, 3970 Dayton Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Oh., with services on Wednesday morning the 27th, starting at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Dayton Memorial Park, 8135 N Dixie Drive in Dayton.
