In Loving Memory of Pritam Sumra It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Pritam Sumra, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and lifelong educator, on October 4th, 2024. She passed away peacefully at the age of 90 in Dayton, Ohio, where she had lived for the past 40 years. Born in war-torn Malaysia, Pritam was the daughter of an officer in the Indian police force. Despite the challenges of her early life, she pursued her education with remarkable determination, earning a teaching degree in Punjab, India. Her passion for education led her to a lifelong career spanning over 50 years, during which she touched countless young lives. In 1993, she further demonstrated her dedication to her craft by earning a Master of Teaching degree from Wright State University. In Punjab, Pritam met and married her loving husband, Gurmej, who was also a teacher. Together, they broke from tradition by choosing not to exchange dowries, forging a marriage built on equality, love, and mutual respect. Their life journey took them across continents—from Punjab to England, then to New York—before finally settling in Dayton, Ohio, where they built a home filled with love and family. Pritam was a devoted mother to her two sons, Rupinderpaul (Paul) and Gurpaul (David) Sumra, and a doting grandmother to her cherished grandson, Kulraj (Raj) Sumra. Her love and care extended beyond her immediate family to include her siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom she held close to her heart. Her faith and spiritual path were central to her life, shaping her dedication to teaching, her family, and her community. With grace and generosity, she sponsored many family members, helping them immigrate to the United States and supporting them as they established new lives. Pritam will be remembered for her wisdom, her boundless kindness, and the profound impact she made on everyone who knew her. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched as a teacher, mentor, and beloved family member. She is survived by her husband, Gurmej, her sons, Rupinderpaul (Paul), Gurpaul (David), her grandson, Kulraj (Raj), sisters Paviter Kaur Gill and Satwant Kaur Dhaliwal and a large extended family who will forever cherish her memory.

A visitation for Pritam will be held Monday, October 14, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Tobias Funeral Home, 3970 Dayton Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM.
