Nicholas Johnson “Nick” Ungard, 89, of Dayton, passed away peacefully on May 26th, 2024 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born June 3rd, 1934 in Xenia, Ohio, the son of Dr. William T. and Virginia K. (Johnson) Ungard. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and attended Stetson University and received a B.S. degree in accounting from the University of Dayton.
Nick spent most of his life in Dayton, and had a career in radio and television advertising, as an account executive at WHIO. Nick was a fixture in the Dayton area, known for his charisma, love of golf, and endless jokes. His lifelong passions were family, friends and sports. Nick was a proud member of the Dayton Agonis Sports Club since 1965, and was inducted into the Xenia High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2016, where he held the average points per game (Basketball) record, and a two-time competitor in the state golf tournament. Also, Nick was the 1962 Dayton Amateur Match Play champion. In 1978, Nick founded the Dayton Amateur Golf Hall of Fame, eventually turning control over to the Dayton Golf Association. In 1986, Nick was honored and inducted into the Dayton Amateur Golf Hall of Fame.
Nick was preceded in death by his beloved wife Bea (Morris), daughter Laura Ungard and son Scot Ferguson. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brothers William Lea and Michael Thomas Ungard. Nick is survived by his son Mark Ferguson, a large extended family, and many close friends.
Nick’s love for his family, friends, playing golf/sports, nutrition and exercise proved to be the keys to his success and wonderful life. He will be greatly missed by all who crossed his path, by all who called him friend and by all who said, I LOVE YOU NICK.
Visitation with the family will be at Tobias Funeral Home-Far Hills Chapel on Thursday, June 6th, 2024, from 4-6pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice of Dayton in his memory.
