Lawrence H. Powell

Powell, Lawrence H., age 90, of Cape Coral, FL and a longtime resident of Dayton passed away on Monday, May 26, 2014. He was born May 14, 1924 in Dayton, OH and moved to Florida from Dayton in 1982. He was an Army Veteran of WW II, having joined the Army when he was 17 years old and served at Normandy Beach on D-Day. He was a member of the Cape Coral VFW. Lawrence was a member of the Church of Christ of Cape Coral and was a 29 year member of Belmont Church of Christ, where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He retired from N.C.R. after 45 years of service. Lawrence leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 66 years, Dorothy J. Powell; his children, Connie Hampton and husband, Wayne of Beavercreek, Steven Powell and wife Keyna, of Cape Coral; his grandchildren, Ami and husband, Mike Gutwein, Joe and wife, Christine Hampton, Sean and wife, Danielle Powell and Ashley Powell; his great grandchildren, Allison, Jake, Conner, Carson, Seth and Ethan. He is also survived by his three siblings, Virginia Kress, Ronnie Powell and Donnie Powell, all of Dayton, OH. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2014, at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road at Grange Hall Road. Tom Marcum, Minister will be officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Entombment will follow in Valley View Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Belmont Church of Christ, 3003 S.
