Julia “Julie” Chmiel (Sears), age 71 passed away on February 2, 2023 after a two year battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents Rosemary and Everett Sears; brother Stephen Sears (infant), sister Krista Sears, and sister-in-law Judy Sears.
Julie is survived by her husband of 45 years, Larry Chmiel; daughter and son-in-law Tracie and Tommy Sparrow; son Brett Chmiel; grandchildren: Jayden, Austin, Calvin, Wyatt, and Oliver; siblings Paula Weckesser and husband Jim, Eric Sears and wife Carol, Tony Sears and wife Pat, Kevin Sears, John Sears, and Mark Sears and wife Denise. She is also survived by mother-in-law Gwen Chmiel; many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and other friends and relatives.
Julie attended Julienne High School, Class of ’69. She started in the Hotel business in 1977 and worked for 23 years before she owned her own Bed and Breakfast in Miamisburg called the“English Manor”. Julie loved getting to know her guests and became friends with many of her customers. She and her husband Larry ran their business for 22 years.
Julie did not know a stranger and truly loved people. Julie had a larger than life personality and lit up any room she was in. She loved her family dearly and was a true matriarch.
Julie was a member of the Miamisburg Monday Night Literary Club, and taught religious education at Incarnation Parish. Julie was a loyal University of Dayton Flyers Basketball fan, and never missed her children and grandchildren’s sporting events, recitals, etc.
A Visitation will be held from 4-7pm, Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Tobias Funeral Home, Far Hills. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place the following day, at 11am, Thursday, February 9, 2023, at the Church of the Incarnation. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made in Julie’s name to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Hospice of Dayton.
