She was born and raised in Evansville, IN. After graduating from Bosse High School at the age of 16, Joyce went on to study music at the University of Evansville. While at the University of Evansville, Joyce met her ex-husband and traveled with him to Newfoundland while he served in the U.S. Air Force. Upon returning to the states, they eventually settled in Dayton, OH, where they raised their three daughters. Joyce completed her college education at the University of Dayton, earning her Bachelor's Degree.
Joyce's passion was music, specifically as a flautist, performing with the Sinclair Wind Ensemble as flute first chair. She enjoyed working as a flute teacher for over 40 years and enjoyed sharing her love of music with her many students. As a result of her reputation as a brilliant musician she received many requests to perform for weddings, church services, corporate events and private affairs. The highlight for Joyce was performing for the dignitaries at the Dayton Peace Accords.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents Jerome and Bernice Reed and her brother James Reed. She is survived by her 3 loving daughters, Laurel Long (Megan Boyes), Lesley Long (Ralph Wysomierski), and Wendy Beavers (George); 4 grandchildren, Ocean Kane, Willow Kane, Kelly Beavers and Kerry Beavers and sister Jan Barnett (Daniel).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bella Care Hospice of Dayton.
Joyce will be interred at David Cemetery following a private family graveside service.
